The Cowboys could have drafted Tyler Guyton at No. 24 overall Thursday in the first round.
Instead, they traded back with the Detroit Lions and acquired a second third-round pick Friday, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Then, they drafted Guyton.
At No. 29 overall, Dallas selected the former Oklahoma tackle. His presence is expected to lock in Tyler Smith at left guard for the foreseeable future. Guyton started 13 college games at right tackle and one at left tackle but projects to the left side in Dallas.
Guyton became the fifth offensive lineman this current Cowboys front office has selected in the first round. Its batting average on the others — Tyler Smith (2022, No. 24 overall), Martin (2014, No. 16), center Travis Frederick (2013, No. 31) and Tyron Smith (2011, No. 9) — is 1.000.
