New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh hopes the team can get a contract extension done with franchise-tagged free safety Marcus Maye this offseason according to Brian Costello of the New York Post.

This comes after GM Joe Douglas said he plans to revisit contract talks with Maye now that the draft is over.  The 28-year-old Maye, originally a second-round pick out of Florida in 2017, is one of the few defensive survivors of the disastrous Adam Gase regime and one of the Jets' best players on either side of the ball.  The main sticking point in getting a deal done is that Maye wants something similar to the 4-year, $61 million contract the Broncos gave Justin Simmons this offseason and the Jets have thus far been unwilling to meet his price.  The sides have until July 15 to reach a long-term deal. If not, Maye will play out this season on his $10.6 million franchise tag.
