Veteran Detroit Lions receiver Geronimo Allison has elected to opt out of the 2020 season, Kyle Meinke of Mlive reports.  This according to ESPN. He becomes the second Lions player to sit out the season due to fears about the coronavirus pandemic, joining defensive tackle John Atkins.

Players with a high risk to COVID-19 can opt out of playing this year and receive $350,000 instead, plus an accrued season. Players who aren’t at a high risk but still don’t want to play through the pandemic can receive a $150,000 advance on next year’s salary. It’s unclear which category fits Atkins and Allison.

Allison, who spent the last four years in Green Bay, caught 34 passes for 287 yards in 16 games for the Packers last season. He signed a one-year deal with Detroit in March and was expected to compete for a reserve role behind Kenny Golladay, Marvin Jones and Danny Amendola.
