With only 13 days until rookies report to training camp, the Jets signed Mississippi State safety Brandon Bryant as an undrafted free agent following the NFL’s Supplemental Draft, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Bryant shared a tweet confirming the signing soon after, Kirk Meyer of the New York Daily News reports.

Bryant declared for the Supplemental Draft due to a combination of academic issues at Mississippi State and a DUI arrest in January of 2017. He was one of five players eligible for the draft, with only two actually being selected. The Giants took Western Michigan cornerback Sam Beal in the third round and the Redskins selected Virginia Tech corner Adonis Alexander in the sixth. By signing Bryant as an undrafted free agent, the Jets were able to preserve their draft picks for next season.

Bryant comes to the Jets after starting at safety the last two seasons for the bulldogs. In college, he displayed solid run defense, recording 157 tackles in three seasons, and decent pass coverage with five career interceptions and one return for a touchdown.
