Jets head coach Robert Saleh is optimistic that defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, who underwent surgery on a broken bone in his foot Thursday, will be back in time for training camp, Joey Chandler of NJ Advance Media reports. According to Saleh, the surgery went well and Williams remains in high spirits.

“It could have been worse, because those types of injuries are injuries that it is just something that eventually was going to happen so for it to happen now so they can get him fixed and be ready for training camp rather than it happening in training camp and now he’s missing half the season,” Saleh said Friday.

“The timing of it all was good. You never want to see a young man get hurt, but especially in our first year to get him to understand how we play -- especially up front -- which will be different for him. The fact he will ready for training camp is still positive.”
