Most of the craziest draft day talk today has focused on Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel but the latest rumor seems to be the oddest yet. Sources tell Jordan Raanan of NJ.com that the New York Giants would "seriously consider drafting Manziel is the QB falls to them at No.12.
The Giants seem to be one of the few teams in the NFL that had NOT been linked to Johnny Football this spring so maybe this rumor was inevitable. Eli Manning is firmly entrenched as the Giants starting quarterback for the foreseeable future and has been an ironman in the NFL despite undergoing offseason ankle surgery. At second glance, however, the rumor linking the Giants and Manziel does seem to haver a crazy kind of logic. The Giants under general manager Jerry Reese have made it a habit of sticking to their draft board and selecting the best player available regardless of need. If that player is Manziel, so be it. The Giants also have to be wondering if Eli's dismal 2013 was a fluke or the beginning of a permanent decline in play.
More likely, the rumor is just the Giants messing with Jerry Jones and their NFC East rivals the Dallas Cowboys, who are said to covet Manziel if he somehow falls to No.16.
