Cincinnati Bengals owner Mike Brown has confirmed that the team will exercise its 2015 option on star wide receiver A.J. Green according to Paul Dehner Jr. of the Cincinnati Enquirer.
The NFL deadline for exercising fifth-year options on 2011 draft picks is May 3. In the case of Green the decision is a no-brainer. As Green is due $3,059,739 in 2014 and the fifth-year option is worth $10.176 million, exercising it would keep him under Cincinnati's control for two years and $13.24 million. That is a team-friendly rate in today's NFL. The earliest Green could test the free agent market would be at the age 27 in March 2016.
