Darren McFadden is entering the final year of his rookie contract. While many players look for a new deal at this time, McFadden wants to hold off and test free agency.
Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reports he Raiders "checked in" with McFadden about a contract extension but he has declined. McFadden is hopeful he can put up big numbers this year in new offensive coordinator Greg Olson's power running system. Last year, Greg Knapp's system wasn't a good fit for McFadden.
"Obviously, he never felt comfortable in what we were doing last year," coach Dennis Allen said. "That led to some questions about him, but if you watch practice, the guy's still explosive. He's still a threat to take it all the way. And he feels more comfortable. If you don't quite trust it, there's always that doubt."
