Coughlin 'walking around like a crazy man' after missing playoffs

Giants coach Tom Coughline whipped himself into a frenzy during a 30-minute interview with WFAN Radio's Mike Francesa this evening, the disappointment of missing the postseason a year after winning Super Bowl XLVI clearly eating away at him, Jenny Vrentas of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.

"I can't even describe how it hurts. I don’t know what to do," Coughlin said on WFAN. "I’m walking around here like a crazy man. I am. I don’t know what to do with myself. We shouldn’t be doing this right now. The pain of it is almost indescribable."

Coughlin's frustration is understandable. The Giants at times played like the best team in the league -- big wins against the playoffs-bound 49ers and Packers -- but yet again fell victim to another second-half slide. And while getting hot down the stretch has been the m.o. of their past two Super Bowl runs, the Giants couldn't find that switch this year.

"When you have things in your grasp, and our team has developed a reputation for playing well under those circumstances, and I think that’s what’s so frustrating for you and for everyone else who follows our team so closely," Coughlin said. "Is that, 'OK, they’ve got the thing set, the table is set for the Giants, this is where they normally step up and play extremely well.' ... But we’re taking it all apart right now as a coaching staff, and hopefully we can provide some answers."
